Both are long past their prime, and given that we have seen them compete countless times (even in a uclfinal), the outcome would tarnish the loser's legacy cuz the new generation focuses primarily on current events and highlights.
Cristiano is an exceptional player, i don't like his personality at all but for instance, iwouldn't want to see all the uproar that would erupt if he lost the final against Argentina.
Everyone would mock him, as if his previous career never existed.

It's more like wishful thinking tbh. Fifa did give a fixture that would have ensured Portugal vs Argentina in QFs but Portugal messed up.
We have seen 4 matches so far. Portugal is clearly struggling. No way they gonna beat Spain, USA and France in a row.
Argentina vs France/ Mbappe vs Messi one more time would be more hype in the finals than Messi vs Ronaldo in the finals.
Multiple reasons - Top teams in form + last WC final was memorable as it is considered as arguably the best final ever by most + Mbappe and Messi are going neck to neck in this WC when it comes to goals.
I am okay with Argentina vs France as well regardless of who wins if we get a banger.
I was watching podcast of Ex England players talking with each other. Everyone said one thing - they don't see this England side going past Argentina in finals. And, if by miracle they do then France / Spain are better side as well.
