He could have done both. He could have cancelled Kidd's Df and then attacked Kidd and knocked him out. Than the Giants could have sunk his ship.
It's vice versa as well. In fact, if Shanks is trying to cancel Shamrock's or Imu's fruits, he has to leave himself open/compromised for a ,moment, and Shamrock and Imu can attack him then. The only reason to say Shanks wins is to give him an arbitrary benefit of the doubt over his older brother, who has been called stronger the only time they were compared. That's just bias.
Tell that to Shanks this chapter, unless you're of the opinion that prime Shanks is the only "true Hakimen" in verse, and he never heard of or met any of them in his 20s.....
Of course, current Shanks isn't willing to challenge Imcel yet either, he's waiting for Goofy to try, while preparing to be a Teach victim.
