Imu know he is joyboy lol, he was simply being sarcastic with him since luffy himself was saying he wasnt. Plus imu highly respected joyboy so seeing his name being disgraced and denied by luffy pissed him off.

Kaido lost against G5 Luffy
wounded Gaban outperformed a healthy G5 Luffy that had 2 more arcs to grow


For the sake of portrayal Kaido is above Gaban but his feats are starting to age badly, and unlike other top tiers that are still relevant story wise, he's unlikely to get new ones.
