Yeah no one was forcing anyone to think of a 1v1. Roger, Rayleigh, Gaban, Oden, Whitebeard all had the opportunity to work together. Once they figured out that Imu wants to sink the world and kill everyone, they easily could have recruited Garp, Harald, probably Big Mom, Shiki maybe even Kaido and Sengoku.
All that to avoid fighting Imu. Though it makes sense, given that Imu low diffed Gaban in one chapter, and might kill him in the next

For example Lucci in Enies Lobby - Zoro actively said either Luffy does it or they all die when Usopp tried to jump in.
Perfect Cell was the same (+ a bit of pride). Goku + help could likely have won but Cell could have beat whole DBZ except Gohan at the same time.
Pain also when Chouji or Shikamaru or whoever wanted to help.
Kaido also, as soon as he got serious only Luffy could stand toe to toe. Rest are out after 1-2 hits.

Eh, in the end Gaban had to lose an arm in the exchange and is apparently defeated by the last page.
Don't get me wrong, it's a great feat as nobody else managed to touch Imu in direct combat but I don't think it kills the powerscaling as Gaban paid a high price. It just means the gap between old legends and other top tiers is not a big as some people assume (which is consistent with pre-sickness Oldbeard being portrayed as the undeniable strongest pirate)

He's also weaker than all of Kaido's top 5, even though Kaido doesn't even know who he is
Yeah, Imu did neg diff a Yonko on panel, but he can't be above Yonko level because Whitebeard was introduced as the Worlds Strongest man back in like 2002 when the Gorosei were also introduced as the highest authority of the world

I can believe prime Gaban was on the lvl of yonkos. Prime Bumleigh is what drags his ass down
Bumleigh had multiple chances in GV to demonstrate all those supposed great adv haki feats in the biggest catch of his life. Instead he lets Roger fight Primebeard and clear way for him while sneak attacking Sommers and failing to do any real dmg to him (no acoc)
