After last chapter we had Gyaban fight against Imu, even tho the left wing of the pirates showed incredible supreme king haki proficiency he was still not enought (giving his advanced age and how injured he was before).
This fight, probably, gave Luffy enough time to get up and be prepared for the probable round 2. Now, considering Luffy's Gear Fifth performance against Imu I do think he need surely a power up. Based on the last battle the obvious and more common idea is that he will refine his control on supreme king haki and he will probably be able to break Imu's Maki shield. This is the direct consequence of an arc where Gyaban, like a mentor, dispensed to the monster trio. First it was Zoro, then Sanji and last it was Luffy.
But, with Imu arrival there is a lot of talk about Joyboy. The two knew each other, we already know that. What if Luffy's next power up is correlated to his devil fruit again?
We know that Zoo Zoo fruits are kinda different form paramisha and rogia right? In OP world it is said that Zoo Zoo has a will of their own. We already knew that they were something different back to Impel Down when Crocodile mentioned they were "awakened".

On Egghead we get another explanation on how Zoo Zoo awakening works and what could happen to users who eat that specific type of fruit. Shaka explained just what happened hundreds of chapters before with the impel down jailers. Their body and mind were too weak and got controlled by the "will" of their fruit.
Chapter 1069
We know that characters like Lucci and the same Luffy have stronger wills and are capable of control their awakening. But what if the user mind or body are instable and even if the user in question already showed control over awakening breaks down and succumb to the power of his fruit? I think this is what will happen to Luffy here and now, when Joyboy is mentioned different times already. Joyboy is said to be the previous user of the hito hito no mi model nika before Luffy. Is it possible that his will is still inside the fruit right? What if Luffy will be get possessed by Joyboy or even Nika himself? I don't exclude an interaction between the same Luffy and Joyboy/Nika inside his mind, or whatever it will be. But I think he will either have an important conversation with his fruit's previous users or get controlled by Joyboy/Nika and getting a power in return.
