Some of it did impact the plot and did it very well (i.e Guts' backstory), but the problem is so much of it was just pointless and only there because Miura wasn't innovative enough to think of an actually good story

Miura later on did admit that he wonders if he went overboard and was it really necessary. He doesn't regret it though

Well a character doesn't have to outright SAY they got stronger in order to prove it, but I think your overall point is true. Oda didn't give enough buildup to Hajrudin being this strong, his only impressive feat in over a decade is him blowing away a MMA with the help of Gerd and Goldberg.

I think we can argue whether having rape scenes were really necessary or narrative requirements or miura own fetish but thing is it was indeed deliberate and well thought decision by miura.

It was calculated decision. Bersek was seinen and was meant to target primarily adult men. Sexual violence was used to build dark psychological narrative for this purpose.

We can question the decision but Bersek indeed ended up being one of the influential manga. Miura was really popular in Japan

i was rereading Berserk a while ago, surprisingly the rape part is not as much as the early part, sure there is sum scene like the cult one, torture chamber etc.
But after the first half its definitely decreasing.
Like the early part is so sad, depressing and disturbing. but like half after that its kinda like Seinen mixed with sum Shounen traits.

I've been saying this for weeks now. Oda doesn't seem to understand that he can't just treat Imu like he's another Kaido or Doflamingo. He's not some scrub that'll get powercreeped in an arc or two. Imu is a serious villain that's meant to be one of the top 4 strongest in the verse.
