Sanji feel lack of self love because he felt he is only being valued by straw hats for his strength and his cooking skills.

Sanji doesn’t realize he puts him down like this. All of this is subconsciously. The issues he has to deal with is accepting he has a problem, and then healing from it.

He never accepted that he did this in the first place. Thats why he locked this memory away and Iva returned as his nightmare because they forced him to confront a truth he didn’t want to accept and has refused to deal with all thus time

Well, after YEARS of trauma and abuse, one just simply trusts someone who says "I love you", very believable. I'd say Sanji started taking it seriously only after Luffy came for him to WCI.

And even if you know you're loved, with self-esteem issues you keep having impostor syndrome and doubt whether you're worth it, and maybe you're still a fraud and once it's clear to everyone that you're a fraud, no one will love you anymore. Totally not years of therapy talking here, damn I can relate to Sanji so much
