This is just a thought since I've been seeing a ton of comments about how much people hate Wano lately, but I specifically remember virtually everyone being pissed when Luffy saved Ace.

Literally up until chapter 572, people were calling Marineford one of the WORST arcs because of this. Then 573 happened and the rest is history. I'm just implying that:

- Chapter 989's title implies everyone is full of themselves

- Act 3 in Kabuki (just assuming we are getting a 5 Act structure via "Google knowledge") generally end in some form of tragedy.

- Literally not one notable villain is even "trying" or has lost. Not even Jack, considering he hasn't even transformed to hybrid or possibly used Awakening (assuming he has it).

- Oda HAS teased "sacrifices" at the last Jump festa. "Luffy will realize there will be sacrifices in order to fight for what he believes in" or something to that effect. Apparently a mistranslation:

I personally think something pretty bad is going to happen, probably before the physical end of Volume 98 (so chapter 994 or 995), and that will carry on a few chapters towards chapter 1000. Either by some unknown force, the BMP arriving or some act of betrayal, somehow the good side is going to get (if temporarily) fucked over.

Essentially what I'm saying is, things may seem boring or there are no stakes involved until Oda decides to flip on a dime. For some of the critics, I'd at least wait until Act 3 finishes. We were supposed to get updates on Hancock, Vivi, Sabo this year I assume it is supposed to end this year/before chapter 1000 (though, Covid is a bitch)
Luffy lost his brother. He’s never losing anyone close to him ever again. That was the point of the timeskip. That’s why I think ppl like Law, the strawhats, Grand Fleet Will never die. Scabbards, Wano ppl, emperors are not of the ppl under plot armor. Oda is dragging this past ten chapters out bc it’s supposed to be fodder food and a frenzy. That’s my interpretation. 990-1000 should be an array of emotional reactions, whether good or bad, with a final bang at 999/1000

its simple, he dont expect his spy mission would be exposed this early.
thats why he doesn't prepared for the strategy lol
I wonder why he saved law, if it jeapordized the entire mission

I'm not expecting anyone super "close" like a Strawhat or a Supernova tbh at this point. To me, it'll probably revolve around a scabbard or just them losing. Of course, i don't see anything really reaching the same effect as Ace, unless a crew member dies, but I personally don't ever see that happening until the end of the story, IF Oda decides to do it.

Foreshadowing Apoo vs Hawkin?

On the left side of Hawkin is APoo's crew mate and Hawkin uses Apoo's crew mate as one of his extra live.

If Apoo cares about his crew he might try to get back his crew mate from Hawkin.

That was what Law did he got back his crew from Hawkin who used Law's crew as one of Hawkin's extra lives.

If Apoo doesn't care this might show Apoo's cruelty that he doesn't care about the live of his own crew.

The "tragedy" has to happen well before chapter 1,000. That's going to be a celebration chapter for sure. We're looking within 2-5 chapters probably.
