But I didn't do my homework either, so we're even. 
That is correct, it is something I was used do in at least my latest two mafia games, IIRC three. Nothing personal, of course, I just go after any player I find suspicious without fussing too much on the implications or oddities as long as my play looks honest.
Furthermore, an Exe would really not make his play so obvious, even a WIFOM strategy implies a peculiarly risky outcome.
Regardless I do not like how some players are calling for my head before my claim even eventually occurred. Their wording is no different from: "Let's lynch Beta, who cares about his claim" and I'm referring to TAC and Zara particularly.
Didn't you state that Zara had a 50% chance to end up Consort?

Famous setup on a 15-player game is:
9 townies
- Jailor, Invest role, Protect Role
- 6 random townies
3 mafia
Mafia has 3 - 4 members but I go with the former. GF, Mafioso, Consig.

Then we have Juggy, Jester, Guardian Angel, (Exe - questionable)
If we look at the balance, 3rd parties are pretty much chaotic to town. Jester could have killed one of the voters had he been luckily lynched instead of dying. Juggy if survived the game could have really created huge havoc upon us as he was bound to be unstoppable at some point. The executioner could push his target to be lynched if done gracefully. The GA is there to implant a defense on a random target and it happened to be a mafia then scums are pretty much in possession of a great army here.
If there's a reduced member of town to bring down to 8 just to include an Exe, then the balance will no longer be observed on this setup because 8 against 7 of that lineup is dangerous for the town.
If my tinfoil is good, Beta couldn't be one of the 3 townies left. The way he attacked both TAC and I might have implied that he is an Exe but it could have been the impression he wants to fabricate.
So, taking away the fear of having an Exe, my proposal is to send Beta to the platform.
