Zoro is probably basing his statement off of his knowledge and understanding Kaido and Mihawk.

So the question is, if during his fight with Mihawk, Zoro says "I had no idea how strong you truly are" or something similar will people go back people go back and then change their opinion? What I think that Oda lies to them.

I must understand the statements from Killer and Zoro are typically based off of their own knowledge and understanding. So they may not be fact.

But for now, that's the only thing we can go about concerning the relation in strength between Kaido and Mihawk.

We don't know any Secret hidden power of Mihawk to the world.

People think Kaido is stronger and both of them are famous.
I think the chances of Kaido being stronger are 90-95% from our current knowledge.

We don't know that though. Zoro has yet to fight either of them 1 on 1. People can do things in a 2v1 that they wouldn't be able to do in a 1v1. I would never dream of Ulti catching Luffy in a 1 on 1, but she was able to do so because Luffy was dealing with Page One when he got caught. You cannot use this to boost or downplay anyone involved except MAYBE Drake.
