shanks is a yonko
so for people who insist on upholding yonko supremacy
against other facts provided , like mihawk being the wss , they will say he isnt a pure swordsman.
you see this with kaido as well, after being called the strongest pirate, some will insist shanks is still >>.
they are implied to be roughly around the same 12 yrs ago

I dont think anything changed. the stronger zoro gets without approaching mihawk, the stronger the community will scale mihawk. after wano , I doubt we see any mihawk = yc tier arguments simply because zoro(his student) would be tithe-ring on surpassing that after the arc but his end goal would still be mihawk.

Imo three main factors and one minor factor (movie):
- Manga Feat-Portrayal: Shanks' CoC > Mihawk's CoC.
- (minor factor) Movie Red feat: Shanks surpassed the lightspeed of Kizaru and his Yasakani no Magatama altogether.
- Manga narrative: Shanks may be placed as Luffy's arc boss, after Luffy defeated-surpassed Kaidou.
- Meta: Oda has personal favoritism and self-insert to Shanks.
- Manga Feat-Portrayal: Shanks' CoC > Mihawk's CoC.
- (minor factor) Movie Red feat: Shanks surpassed the lightspeed of Kizaru and his Yasakani no Magatama altogether.
- Manga narrative: Shanks may be placed as Luffy's arc boss, after Luffy defeated-surpassed Kaidou.
- Meta: Oda has personal favoritism and self-insert to Shanks.
-We haven't seen Mihawk used COC so we don't know, but we do know Lanks has low tier COA.
-Even an old Ray was able to tag Kizaru in lightspeed, so he is as fast as old Ray, good job.
-He is not Luffy's competition he is just a guy who is gonna job to BB.
-Not sure how much this matters when he made his self-insert lose his arm to a fish and get scarred by a DFless BB.
BB will humiliate him even harder next time.

- Shanks unnerved Akainu and Greenbull just by being present. Mihawk couldnt do that to Vista, Jozu, Croc, Luffy, etc. So clear comparison. Sure Shanks had low tier CoA due to Lord Coast stuff, and a literal editor's meta interference. While should you call Mihawk have low tier CoA for not being able to bypass Buggy or majorly hurt pre-TS Luffy even with Iceberg-quality slashes?
- kicking someone standing still in preparation stance to kill Zoro, is not the same as sweeping a few lightspeed bullets and cornering a lightspeed dodge altogether, as a father's courtesy.
- Shanks is Luffy's competition automatically since the moment he aims for One Piece. Whether he will job to BB or being a part of 3-way battle is all speculation at this point.
- Obviously it matters when Oda wanks Oden and proceed to make two Admirals look less than healthy in front of Shanks. Whether he will lose to BB is not related to Mihawk one bit.
