He basically became a Magikarp that developed into Gyarados.

Everyone refers to Kaido as a Dragon. Who also has Dragon abilities. Why not just naming the fruit Dragon fruit? Lol.

The only chance in the past was that Kaido was someone like Chopper. Originally a Dragon and then eating an humanish-oni devil fruit.

It seemed like an ok theory, maybe a bit far fetched cause his Dragon form looked the operate of his devil fruit.

It appears the reason why Kaido doesn't look like a Dragon in base is because he isn't.
