same way the Phoenix unlocked immortality in mythology does not mean marco became/unlocked immortality. his fruit is based on the myth
kaido's is based on another myth of the carp turning to a dragon . doesnt have to mean he himself unlocked it .
you can look up how a pheonix became immortal to get the general point.
similar thing here with the carp and the dragon.

and regardless if he did unlock it and became a dragon. still means yamato is right, kaido is a dragon. lol
