I discovered HxH this year thanks to the Covid lol after hearing for years how great and awesome and perfect.
Two things :
First : it is indeed a great manga m. Some characters are great, and the Chimera arcs is really up there. Meruem and the ants are really marvelous antagonists. The Nen system is also great. The fight good too mostly.
Secondly : yeah I agree with you, some fans are too much about HxH like it is the most impressive master piece ever or the Bible.
Two things :

My personal analysis of chapter 999's summary (before the pics):
Ace
- Obviously the main theme of this chapter, I was one of those skeptycal who couldn't see the meaning of all this, but Oda managed to make me appreciate it. Ace and Yamato are shown mirroring each other and now their bond makes sense: it was born with a sparring cause she was bored, evolved in a stunt against her father (tiying up the fodders and destroying the dragon statue) and ended with the 2 talking and drinking sake at night, talking about the Worst Generation (mentioning Cavendish, Kidd, Law, Bege and of course his brother, who'll be the strongest). For a person like Yamato, who lived most of her life reclused on an island, meeting a person like Ace that understood and resembled her so much must have been for sure an important moment.
Explains the faith that Yamato is putting in Luffy. I'm wondering about the Oden journal she has with her tho.
- Marco, in the middle of action, remembers Ace asking Pops the permission to attack Kaido. Whitebeard refused, cause a lot of them would have died (i.e. to everybody talking about Kaido vs Whitebeard: there was a tacit stalemate between them, they were equal) and silences him for putting himself on a level superior to Oden. Marco also remembers telling Ace he would have been with him at the first order of Pops. But now Pops is dead. And as Big Mom said some chapters ago: dead man tell no tales.
So he decides to take Zoro (a member of the Worst Generation Ace and Yamato were drinking sake on) and tells to King and Queen who are blocking his way that the New Era is more overwhelming than they think (i.e. need asap to see Queen firing from the mouth, cause this can be a 10 or a 0, no inbetween). Also nice Teach's comment about taking a 'big head'.
-Tama too remembers Ace, and the promise she made to him about becoming a kunoichi. Then tells Nami that she has a plan.
Rocks
Kaido is sober and Big Mom is satisfied. 100%. Kaido reveals that he will drop Onigashima on the Kozuki castle (a show of strength worthy of his name) and Big Mom talks about the Poneglyph and taking Robin alive (RED LIGHT) and Pudding is mentioned . I'm opening the possibility of Robin having a decent amount of focus from now on.
She then asks him if the Kozuki castle is the location of the Road Poneglyph and Kaido teases her about not showing his cards, so she reminds him the debt he has with her: she gave him his DF (the mythical Uo Uo no Mi) on God Valley so he should not boss her around.
In the end they say "We found the One Piece", now, I don't know if that's meant to mean like "We WILL find the One Piece" and it's just a translation error or it's litterally meant to mean "We FOUND the One Piece. That would be a huge game changer.
Imo 999 was the mumbling of the Old Era, while 1000 will be the rise of the New Era.
