When reading chapter 999, something dawned on me.

We were told Kaido challenged the Emperors and Navy HQ in his intro
However, we later see he hasn't seen Linlin in x amount of decades, with decades indicating at least 2, thus at least 20 years.
We know that Shanks became an Emperor 6 years ago
And we know Whitebeard didn't fight Kaido from chapter 999, as they planned the assault on Wano and knew about Oden's death.

One could say he might have fought WB before WB found out Oden had died, but it's a stretch imo.

So who is the Emperor Kaido fought? Or was the line more along the line that he had challenged their forces, territories, crews, etc?

Following that, we know that Kaido had suffered 7 defeats in his career
So my next question is who beat Kaido's ass?

Challenging the navy and emperors is more along the lines of establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with.
He didnt have to actually fight anyone for it. When it comes to 7 defeats, I guess God Valley is one of them, they all happened long ago in his youth, more than 25 years ago because nobody managed to beat him since he is in Wano.

It was a cheap hype.
The only thing that impressed me was the panel itself, which was incredible and had the right impact.
Every other stuff was meh.

I don't think he ever fought any top tier while he was a top tier himself (except for Oden). I think all that stuff is pre Wano when he was still growing in power and roaming the seas like a wild beast. Basically the way Ace was doing. Which is way I always laugh when people say that Roger or WB couldn't injure him like Oden. I don't think they even ever fought the man.

Oda is deliberately very unclear or rather vague, in Kaido's introduction it says that he was defeated "as a pairet" meaning, that it wasn't defeat in a battle/fight but rather in piracy, Kaido was a lesser pairet than his foe. On the other hand, even if he was defeated in a fight then it could in a team fight, at the end of the day "one on one bet on Kaido" so it is possible that those who defeated him didn't fight against him alone.


An important thing to remember: Oda is contradicting himself a lot since WCI; everything is under question, we just learned that Whitbeard was a caword compared to what we knew about him. Kaido might end up being a fraud too, just like Whitbeard. Same factor can be applied to Mihawk since he never defeated Shanks or all swordsmen in the world, how do we know that he's indeed the WSS when he never really defeated his own rival Shanks?
We also found out that PK title is just a name, it doesn't give you anything, Luffy thinks that PK is the freest man in the world but when he finally achieves his dream he'll realize that he was free all this time even whiteout that title. Everything in one piece is a fraud, One Piece doesn't exist nor Joy Boy, it's all lie that you all will found out at the end.

Agree it just seems like Oda didn't think it through when hyping Kaidou.
He should not seem to be this shocked if he was repeatedly beaten/wounded by his peers and Marines.
Hope Oda addresses this soon and also explains where Kaidou got the weird fetish of trying to tank everything.

If he faced alone the navy (3 admirals or just 100k of mid tiers for example) or yonkou (full RHP) it's still a defeat no ?
And about 1 vs 1, he maybe lost before he got his DF.
IF actually he was defeated after he got his DF, my bet on Shanks, Mihawk and Aka Inu but i don't think he faced them. Because Kaido with 0 scar after fighting the two or three most lethal person in OP world doesn't make sense.
So conclusion, he fought many people at once and his 1 vs 1's defeats probably happened when he was young.

The only question remain is that Kaido got his Dura from Devil Fruit that Big Mom gave him at the end of Rocks, or he was born monster like Big Mom himself. If this first i can see him going vs marines and strong pirates after he mastered his Devil Fruit. He was captured and sentenced to Death many Times. I dont think his Fish Fruit gave him his monstrous Dura from start

This is all the times kaido has been hurt on panel and the reactions to it













note - there were a few more of scabbard hurting him but you get the point

one consistent is EVERY SINGLE TIME HE IS HIT BY RYOU HE IS SHOCKED
not to mention any subordinate is in shock he can even be hurt (even meme in the last panel)
Lets be real ryou is not that uncommon
less so amongst top tiers
all top tier except meme have ryou
a lot of top tiers will have stronger ryou than oden who kaido holds up to a standard
in the last chapter he is literally letting luffy punch him thinking it wont do anything and then he gets put on his ass
there is no way this man fought top tiers repeatedly
it goes against what is shown in this manga every time he faces someone with ryou

Kaido never lost 1 v 1 for the past 20 years
That's why he is the king of 1 v 1

His Ls and Captures happened before he "beat" Oden.
He challenged BMP 33-21 years ago : got captured...then escaped
Challenged Navy 30-2 years ago : captured ...navy maybe defeated him 30-21 years ago.
Challenged Roger/WB/BM : lost...

His Ls came when he was a supernova/just a famous pirate
