This post did change my mind on the Mihawk scene. I no longer believed that Crocodile was able to make Mihawk back off Luffy. If you consider that Mihawk decided not to engage Don Krieg despite the latter attacking him, then there's not really much reason to read his interaction with Crocodile as a strong feat from him.
> We know that if Doffy infused his strings with haki, he’d have beheaded Croc.
I actually don't agree with this anymore. I used to think that Doffy obviously didn't use haki because if he did Croc would have died, but I don't think there's any in story reason for Doffy not to have used haki when he attacked Croc. He knows he was up against a Logia user, attacking him without haki would be silly.
These are good counterarguments IMO. The reply would be something like: "alone, the Mihawk instance and the Sakazuki instance aren't that convincing, but together they do paint a picture".
I've yet to reread Marineford (I've been procrastinating I know), so I'm not confident in engaging in Crocodile debates right now (I would probably have to read Impel Down as well, as Crocodile's combat ability probably wasn't retconned between Impel Down and Marineford. I'm really not looking forward to rereading Impel Down.
Hmm, I'll concede the penetration haki point. We didn't see Ray deploy advanced forms of haki, but this was preskip, so we can't confidently say he didn't either.
