Controversial Nintendo finally sues Palworld

Do you feel it's deserved?

I don't think anyone cares about the devs, or at least that's not the main reason they're defending them.

They're angry at game freak for constantly putting out half assed cash grab games, and flatly refusing to give their fanbase the type of game that they are more than capable and rich enough to create. I've seen pokemon games created by a single person that have better graphics, combat and story than the vast majority of shit that game freak put out.

They've disrespected their fanbase for long enough.
you could be against the lawsuit just for the principle of it
Idk where you guys got the idea I'm on nintendo's side or that I have it out for Palworld. I'm just saying mfs shouldn't passionately defend corporations on either side.

Just in case you're curious on where I stand in all this.

I honestly don't know. It feels like Nintendo is simply doing what they always do by trying to screw over smaller companies due to their unreasonable paranoia. But at the same time, palworld is very 'in your face' as a pokemon copycat. Personally, I want Nintendo to lose, but I do think it is valid for them to sue in this particular instance.

Then again, I'm a little bit uniformed about the situation, maybe Nintendo has no argument here and they're just playing the bully yet again.

I heard someone say "the game is ruined" because of that. Mostly because now apparently Pals just appear out of nowhere when you summon them, so you can no longer aggro enemies by hitting them with the palball or whatever it's called (I haven't played the game myself) and apparently that and other similar mechanics of using the palball are now lost.

He did sound a little overdramatic about it.

The lawsuit is bullshit, the system is broken and Nintendo sucks, but Palworld would lose it anyway, so good for them to be taking measures to save themselves.

People don't really understand what the meaning of patenting game mechanics. This makes zero sence. Because if all mechanics will get patent whole game industry will be dead. No fresh ideas, nothing. Because this is not how things should go.

It ruined game only first day, case then PP released fix patch.
Anyway there is a reason why they remove this cathing mechanic- because Nintendo wanted to make Palworld blocked on steam before case will be closed.

Many extremely generic game mechanics have been blocked by patents these past two decades, it blew my mind when I saw examples. Things that are easy to implement and easy to think of that would have improved the quality of life of any game in plenty of genres, but that are blocked behind absurd patents.

They don't even patent the code per se, they patent basic ideas. It's a shitty system and it should be reworked.

Other than companies like Nintendo, there is also people who don't even develop games and just patent stuff to then extort actual companies. Which in turn forces companies to preemptively patent stuff to protect themselves. EA for example has a lot of shitty patents but as far as I know hasn't sued anyone over them so you can tell they didn't do it in bad faith, surprisingly.

Exactly it's like patenting small genre in novels, this makes no sence and the only reason for this is for milking other games with this patent. Like they need to pay big game company for allowing them to use some mechanics in the game. This is dead end for gaming industry.
