Alright lads we need to talk

I've noticed recently that games have a lower amount of posts than let's say a year ago. This is a bit alarming as we need to thrive for a minimal annual post count in the Mafia section, lest we get budget cuts due to low results.

We're already struggling to get the dice software approved so we need to show the boss of WG that we are serious in our passione for Mafia games so he can take us serious too.

This is why I come forward to you and ask what can be done to improve activity and get new faces to our section.

I have been reading some of the games from a spectators pov and the activity still looks fine to me. I don't see anything wrong with the activity. The post counts in Worstgen are way more higher than compared to the post counts in Oro Jackson.

New faces on OLF got scared away by all the tunneling, ATE, and toxicity

So uh

Maybe we don’t do that?

Hmm I've been playing pretty regularly for almost 2 years now and a good way to bring in more faces and people is to advertise it more, unless you're tagged or happen to see the sign ups post you probably won't know what it is i didn't know what mafia was first time I started playing I just happened to see Fushi's post, could have it like pinned for a couple of days (hey sign up for xxx mafia with a quick explanation on what mafia is, how to play different terms and meanings (i pretty much learned every thing through playing and asking questions)

Another problem I noticed that is likely turning people away is that many of the games erupt in arguing and hurt feelings and insults either in the middle of the game or post game people are so gun-ho about winning they forget it's just a game and having a good time is way more important than getting winning if you can't argue your point without getting heated you should step away and cool down

Another cool thing that could be implented maybe have one of the major host in the community (fushi, ratchet, mango, etc etc take on a protege and train them with newer host comes newer ideas and themes

Long reply cut short

Better advertising
Remember it's just a game
Expand the Host roster if possible

Post count is fine depending on the game and time, my games usually get a lot of engagement but I did notice for example in my current game some activity issues, though 99 pages in a day phase isnt bad. I think its a non issue, people are busy.

I will pay from my own pocket for a dice software if I have to @Bogard.

Continuing on, its not an issue because last year the section was dead and I amongst others came back and revived it. As long as there are engaged hosts and new players coming in we will be fine. Would also help if more veteran mafia players played too but I understand burnout and all.

This is the SRM section as you can see the numbers rise depending on the time and also more importantly theme of the game. Ekkos game had 259 pages and it ended in 2 cycles. This entire year we had good average posts per game. The engagement is there. But it seems like the community is more into SRM then RM because:

Here are the RM games from this year:

As you can see guys the engagement depends on the theme of the game ( If its anime related like OP,Naruto, or some big franchise like HP or SW it will have traction) for the most part. But yes RM games have lower pages in general then SRM its just the nature of the beast.

Now if you check the year 2023, it followed the same trend, OP games and or unique games where say you create your own role or I create your character? Boom engagement, normal RM game? Slower engagement. I am talking strictly about RM here because for SRM things didnt really change too much. Games in the SRM section vary from 400 or so pages to 800 depending on the setup and time its played.

TLDR: Hosting big profile SRM games generates engagement as is hosting well known themes for RM. The rest will get lower engagement as the players will engage less with the flavor.

Biggest RM games of 2023 ( the year before this one) were my OP games, Avatar, Rejs Hell Paradise and Ekkos JJK. All mainstream flavors.

Im just talking RM here but the main takeaway is that its basically offer and demand just like in everything else, and also originality.

The most popular RM game ever on this website was Game Of Thrones based, at the height of GOTs popularity for example and it had a pretty cool faction system.

Could host one of those classic bastard setups like Garou again to get new people to join tbh.
That wont get new players. One Piece will, something like create your own character which I plan to host soon. I already have 2 players in mind that promised me they will come back.

Garou for all its crazyness and meme worthy moments only reached 180 pages for example. I loved it, its a cult classic, but the gist of it is.

New players will be more inclined to join and play a flavor they know and like. Even if they suck at the game they can atleast engage in flavor solving or see how their favorite characters look like in mafia format.
