Don't cope. He cried after Pudding was mocking his feelings. His reaction to the betrayal you pointed out should've normally be to be prepared for a counter rather than sobbing like a kid.
He literally starts crying when Pudding says it’s all been an act and that the Vinsmokes are going to die… the fact that you expect him to not show any emotion is really really dumb

No, reread the chapter again. The meltdown starts as she starts mocking Sanji, saying what a disgrace and loser he is, while Sanji stands in the rain with the bouquet of roses and picnic basket with wine lying on the floor and him starting crying.

Bro wanted to have a romantic dinner with a 16 year old chick and learned she taunts him.

But keep coping.

We literally see the meltdown starting when Puddings explaining the murder… Sanjis expression doesn’t change throughout the chapter.

Again he’s crying cause literally he’s being told that everything was a waste, he’s going to die, his sister is going to die, he sacrificed everything and in the end got nothing.

You seriously think Sanjis crying over a girl he literally rejected earlier in the arc?

I watched multiple diehard Sanji fans legit quit One Piece because of WCI. Ofcourse Oda shills don't care, Oda can feed them shit and they'll still eat it up. Being in the majority doesn't mean anything.

I don't care about the whole age deal, not with Bonney either, she's fully an adult when she ages up, that's only something that bothers internet teens, anyone who isn't chronically online doesn't care about these things. The reason I brought up Pudding's age is not because of it being a pedo thing, rather it is embarrassing for someone like Sanji to be letting a teenage girl do that to him. That is not who Sanji was, or ever has been at any point of the story. The worst thing about WCI was the fact that Sanji just magically forgot what the lengths the SH crew go for their crewmates, it's like Enies Lobby didn't happen. SH's waged war against the entire WG for a Robin against her own will. Sanji's actions and getting cucked by BM and Pudding, while keeping his captain who he damn well knows won't leave without him, in the dark, at that point of the story is inexcusable. Oda basically sacrificed Sanji for cheap drama.

I can get into a whole lot more, but don't have the energy in 2025 to go over the shitshow that was WCI. The only thing worse Oda ever wrote was Oden.
Tbf I quit after Wano. Its not worth it when Sanji's only fight post timeskip was against a retarded incompetent opponent, and the fight constantly kept on getting interrupted and had very poor CQC. I realised its not worth it since Oda doesnt want to draw Sanji in combat...he's forced to draw him in combat.

Truly what Oda wants is Sanji having one off panels and statements throughout arcs showing he's strong...just so he can keep up with characters that are actually strong and are shown to be like Zoro and Luffy.

Sanji's moveset doesnt interest him and Sanji isnt close to as popular as Zoro....so whats the point for him. Again if hes forced to give him something in a war, lets atleast make it funny, thats probably his thought process

Baroque Works Sanji is Mr.Prince, definitely Peak Sanji.
Water Seven Sanji is pretty cool too, going also on the Sea Train
Whole Cake Sanji is interesting too because we see a more sensible side of Sanji

I think Oda is up and down with the story, but the characters aren't better or worse. Voted wci because it was his story

Damn can’t believe someone would cry when he’s sacrificed everything just to try to keep everyone safe only to find out everyone was set up to die in the first place.
Lmfao this is the issue in the first place. This retard put his faith in Big Mom over Luffy. I won't ever forget that panel where he is talking to Big Mom like he's her little pet, all gullible happy and shit not being suspicious of her words at all, when she was giving him a fairy tale ending where everyone lives happily ever after. Pathetic.

1. He always had faith in Luffy but he could never act on it
2. Sanji has stated since the east blue That he’ll believe and forgive a woman’s lies. Idk why yall expected him to doubt BM…

Don't care to respond to your cope.

For anyone else who is curious of what I'm talking about

These are the 2 most pathetic pages I have ever read in One Piece. Sanji is acting like Big Mom’s obedient pet, smiling earnestly while being blatantly manipulated. This is the same moment that ultimately leads to his emotional breakdown later. The worst part? He genuinely believed a Pirate like Big Mom’s words without an ounce of skepticism. Really? Since when has Sanji-the SH known for being the most rational and cautious-been reduced to this level of gullibility? This scene feels like it was written for Chopper, not Sanji. No countermeasures, no backup plan, not even a shred of doubt? Just fully and genuinely buying into a pirates lies like that and crying over it? :whitepress:

The reality is Oda temporarily created a completely different one arc rental of a character for cheap drama. He wanted the Luffy vs. Sanji fight and the "iconic" crying in the rain moment, but to get there, he tossed who Sanji was out the window. What makes it even worse is Enies Lobby already happened, but this version of Sanji acts like that entire arc never happened, and that Luffy would even leave without him in the first place. What's even the point of experiences like that if they don't add anything to the story or characters? Don't even get me started on the "nicest guy" Sanji narrative Oda was trying to shove down our throats.

Oda had very specific melodramatic scenes in mind that he felt his audience would eat up, Oda wasn’t writing a coherent character true to his experiences and personality, he was chasing his own drama-bait money shots. Everything else got sacrificed for it, and it shows. Cheap stuff.

Nah he got you there, Sanji was incredibly out of character in WCI.
Here's how Sanji should act:
Beats women repeatedly, even worse than he beats men
Doesn't care about threats like "I WILL behead your father and his crew and send you their heads in the mail if you disobey my orders", because he's too cool and nonchalant to care about saving the man who literally ate his own leg to help save him.
Lets the Germa genes take him over and turns into Judge 2.0, leaving the Straw Hats to become a cruel merciless machine that hurts people for the most miniscule reasons

This is Sanji perfected. Not sure what Oda is doing trying to make him this sensitive dude who loves and cherishes his friends and family and doesn't prey on the weak or treat women like shit despite the only two people from his biological family that actually love him being women

:Shadow_Unimpressed:These aren’t harmless “gotcha” lies, this is life or death for him and his crew. Sanji was never portrayed as gullible, and you’re twisting a line that was clearly tied to Robin’s Enies Lobby situation. Even if he claims he’ll believe a woman’s words, the implication has always been that he’d sense something’s off but let it slide, not blindly trust a savage Yonko with zero caution given the consequences of it being untrue, to the point it leaves him in tears later (going to show you how genuine his response was, this isn't a "she's lying but I'll believe it" situation, he completely failed to pick up on it). Trying to apply that here is peak cope. Sanji became Chopper.

So yours problem is you’re mad that a previously established character flaw actively affected the plot and Sanji didn’t go against his own characterization for the sake of plot?

Sanjis literally constantly stated and shown to have a blind spot for women… that’s been a thing since Arlong Park? It was highlighted multiple times through the grand line pre and post timeskip and you’re calling it bad characterization now despite it being fully in character?

You’re talking about big Mom like she’s just a yonko but to Sanji she’s literally a woman first. As such his character flaws related to women were very prominent but they were all fully in character.

Again he doesn’t doubt her because he doesn’t doubt women. If you don’t like Sanji fair enough but let’s not act like WCI Sanji was at all out of character.

To play devil's advocate for a second, didn't Sanji later say that he didn't see Big Mom as a real woman and more of a monster and used that as a justification for him not beating Luffy's ass for hitting her?

No he never said that? Oda himself highlights that Sanji still saw her as a woman in the end when he answered the question about Sanji blocking thunderbolt with a kick (probably what you’re referring to)

Basically oda said she’s a monster but still a woman. As such there’s no way for Sanji to block her attack except by parrying it. Hence why he used a kick.
