What was the last movie you watched?

Eagles of the Republic, from Tarik Saleh.

A thriller set in current day Egypt, where a star actor is chosent to play the role of Al-Sissi in a propanga film for the Egyptian government, only to end being at the center of a political conspiracy, and being the witness of the autocratic regime in Egypt with his friends and family suffering from it.

Really enjoyed this one, really felt the pressure of the MC being confronted to the terrifying power of an autocratic government and of its secret services, with Fares Fares giving a great performance as this flawed but still very human actor who has several affairs, has a difficult and distant relation with his son but still loves, who dislikes Sissi's regime but ends up cowering to it to protect his son, and who also does try to help one of his actress friends and his neighbors after one of them, a son, is arrested.

Really gives food for thought.

Querelle by Fassbinder. Boring but I love Fassbinder films usually. Greatest German director.

This one bored me. I prefer his other films.

Seems like it´s working...
You just have to ignore.

On my binge to catch up on 2025 movies I watched Sentimental Value, it´s good but not as good as Trier´s previous movie, generational trauma has been done better.
Hie last one the worst person in the world is nice but he made quite some uninteresting films in his beginnings I believe.

Wake Up, Dead Man (2025)

Kinda tied woth the second installment as second (or third) worst. A star studded cast doesn't make up for the imo mediocre story. Daniel Craig is what makes this film series work and he comes into the story relatively late.

An enjoyable afternoon flick but not a must watch unless you're a fan of Benoit Blanc.

Plus the political pandering :lusalty:

Mr and Mrs Smith.

7/10. An old fun movie with Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt who play assassins without knowing of the other's true occupation and how they work for rival agencies, which end in a fight against each other before a savage making up and out and then the two working together against their former employers.

The films's strength lies in the undeniable and very fun chemistry between Jolie and Pitt, and on the dark and absurd humor such as the truths they reveal to each other once they've reconciled, or them fighting off their would be killers with nothing but fanservice outfits.

Always fun to watch.

"AVATAR: FIRE AND ASH" (2025) - 2.5/5

Oh boy, its with a saddened heart that I say that Jimmy C missed 😔 he overcooked the food as they say and decided to just reheat a good chunk of last night's leftovers.

Basically a good chunk of this film is literally just Way of Water 2.0, so many scenes almost identical to the last film. That being said, Quartich remains arguably the most compelling character in the franchise still and the new Fire Navi Girl was great. The film looked great visually as to be expected

Nothing surprising. The interest in the Avatar movies has always been a visual one, because the story and writing of the characters has always been lacking, at very best they are average for the first movie, and they haven't gotten better since.
