Controversial Would Wano have been a better arc if Oden,Orochi, the scabbards and Yamato just did not exist ?

Wano had potential with characters like Komurasaki and Ushimitsu Kozo . I think those should have been actual unique characters ( not Hiyori and Denjiro ) with far bigger role in story , bigger power level and greater influence in Kaido downfall. Hyougoro should have be given more spotlight , power and relevance.

Like these 3 should have been main opposing force to Kaido rule and Luffy had to join forces with them in fight against Kaido . Those 3 with Luffy should have taken Kaido down together with Luffy not being nowhere near as strong as he was at end of Wano.

While Big Mom should have been defeated by Zoro , Sanji , Law , Kidd.

Then people would Complain that Luffy struggled with yc just last arc and a Little Bit later zolo,Sanji and Side Characters Are able to Beat yonkou

Big Mom shouldn't have been in Wano period. She should have come back to Elbaf with which she had strong connections and unresolved business.

Also for mixing Kaido and Orochi's story, Kaido could have been one of the last survivors from the Oni race, which had been massacred and driven away from their home of Onigashima by the people of Wano, with him returning to Wano to take revenge and reclaim his ancestral home.

Yamato: easy yes under any metric.

Oden: if totally rewritten compared to the obnoxious, overexposed Garu stu he turned out to be, yes. Also, absolutely erase his past as a WB crewmember, since the silly excuse Oda used for WB not to go there and kill Kaido ruined WB's character.

Scrabbards: probably cut some of them and reduce their time.

Orochi: it was a classical villain, even though I would have made him completely different and I would have made him Zoro's fight, in an epic Zoro vs Ryuma 2.0.

The massive problem with Oden is that Oda tried to make us believe that he was that super awesome character that was worshipped by everyone, even though he was nowhere near as amazing and cool as Oda sold him, that characters worshipped him without him having given us any real reason to justify said worship, that he was a very immature and stupid character who made some absurdly dumb and catastrophic decisions for his country and family. He feels like a self-insert and creator's pet in the worst sense of the word.

Wano doesn't really work if you remove all of those characters entirely.

What I would say is that you could easily combine a couple characters and that gets rid of some chattel.

1) Just give Kaido the backstory of Orochi. Make Kaido a Kurozumi that was persecuted during his childhood, fled Wano, fought in wars, came back and made everyone in Wano pay.

2) Combine some of the Scabbards. Nine is too many and a few of them like Shutenmaru are pretty one note.

3) I've actually got nothing for Yamato, she actually is a pretty pointless character.
True, but also completely re-write Lolden, in particular him being a member of WB's crew which fucked up even WB.

I really enjoyed Orochi, but I think that means Oden is a package deal:lusalty:

I loved Kin, but he prolly shoulda died.

Out of the other Scabbards, only Denjiro, Raizo & Kanjuro should've existed

Yamato would've been better if she wasn't Kaidos' kid. Maybe an orphan who admired Oden got her life saved by Kaido or something

Hate Oden, so hard yes on him not existing lol. While I understand that Oden is a pivotal character to Wano gosh I hate him so much. Like I do hate Sommers atm, but Sommers is meant to be hated, so we're cool. Oden on another hand.... ugh. And I also don't really like Momo and don't care much about Hiyori. Now I am probably treading dangerous waters because I actually like Yamato (minus the Oden gag) as I like the trope of child of evil character being on an opposite side and helping the heroes (think Zuko from Avatar in later seasons), but her Oden fangirling was annoying af. The only scabbard I kinda liked was Kinemon. The rest I don't care much (although I still think Izou should have lived and Kiku should have died).

So, if I was writing Wano, I would:
- remove Big Mom
- remove Oden, his family and scabbards save for Kinemon (Kinemon might be looking for help outside Wano to overthrow Kaido as he understands he has rebellious forces but they aren't strong enough)
- remove Zou connection
- minimize number of supernovas present to give more time for SHP to shine (since I don't care much about them, I would probably just leave Law as it's kinda cool continuity from PH, and I sorta like X Drake with his failing his Marine plot, but I am open to other suggestions)
- have Zoro explore his ancestors

I like the idea of Wano being a closed-off legendary Samurai land being under oppressive rule of Kaido, and honestly I didn't ming Orochi that much other than the fact that he was super underwhelming power-wise. I would be fine if the plot was more similar to Alabasta, where Luffy helped Vivi and her dad overthrow Crocodile, and here Luffy would have helped Kinemon to overthrow Kaido (would be also interesting to have good and evil royal brothers dynamic with Kinemon and Orochi, like both could inherit the throne, but Orochi would betray Wano for Kaido). Yamato could've been a secret trump card helping SHP and Kinemon in fighting Kaido.

Alabasta also had a ton ton of characters, but it still had enough focus on SHP, and this is one of my main critics for the post-TS OP, especially starting from Dressrosa, when the number of characters was starting to go out of hand and Oda had to split SHP to focus on some of them at least a bit

Not saying my version of Wano would've been better in the end, but it would totally have less characters and cleaner storyline. Kurozumi were born to burn line still leaves such a bad taste in my mouth.

Yamato should have been Jack's childhood friend, like Luffy and Sabo. Kaido saved child Jack from Sabaody slave market (Jack is a fishman) and adopted him. Keep Yamato as Oden normal fan. So the childhood friends fell apart and began clashing because Yamato sided with Wano while Jack sided with his savior.

Make Hiyori actually evil and be the Queen Calamity. She is the reverse Yamato. She saw Oden's bullshit like dancing naked and how Oden led Wano country to ruin. She lost everything because of her dad's terrible decision, then she blamed her dad's incompetence similar to Doffy's case. Later Kaido captured her but then adopted and fed her well, seeing her potential while Kaido realized his own daughter is rebellious.
