You guys are so used to "solo main character everyone is garbage in comparison" that when an author actually gives time and let other characters shine, you guys think the "main character got overshadowed".

C'mon, I've re-read HxH earlier arcs recently. Gon isn't that bad. He is initially your typical shounen hero with "strong potential, needs training" vibe at first, but I actually loved his believable losses against Hisoka and nen users in the Tower, and then his growth. Gon is basically your Luffy without the plot armour.

Is it something like 'plot armor,' meaning the reason he doesn't die and recovers is because of Killua?

It's kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinda hard to call anything in "HxH" "plot armor" when the author created a "free for all" power system that can literally be anything he wants.

You just prefer MCs who get all the attention

Hxh works so well because Gon is not the only one who gets all the screen time

one piece has become the nika show now. Not even luffy show. Straight up a mythical pirate jesus nika show. Goofy's character has quite literally been absorbed by and evaporated by nika. And Nika is a bullshit retcon that oda only introduced like 4 years ago.

How pathetic and weak is the MCs character that it gets so easily absorbed and overshadowed by a retcon for his df?
25 years of goofy's character turned to shit for a mythical zoan retcon that has made the story way way worse.

Don't deceive yourself, throughout the story Gon was overshadowed by Killua and Kurapika, not to mention the Yorknew arc, Kurapika was the one in the forefront on his own, the only time Gon came to the forefront was during his fight with Pitou, and in the manga, he was completely sidelined, my friend, sidelined in his own manga.

YES,
YORKNEW WAS THE ARC FOR KURAPIKA. SO HE WAS MORE PREVALENT IN THAT ARC. YET HALF OF IT WE STILL FOLLOWED GON AND KILLUA THERE EVEN THOUGH MOST OF THE EMOTIONAL INVESTMENT WAS IN THE KURAPIKA'S SEGMENT.

No he wasn’t? Yorknew may have been about killua but gon was still the character we followed for the vast majority of the arc
