It's not that deep. And trying to make Nami brutalizing Luffy in chapter 1xxx over a derp thing he said deep actually makes her comically stupid as a character, if anything.

If you don't see it, you do you. You'd have a point if Nami only did in early 100s chapters. But it's clearly just a continuous gag unaffected by her growth or character (nor would it be justified anymore) Because it's not meant to be deep or anything but a gag. Like Sakura's.
