In the same vein, Shanks was able to use a similar application on Greenbull to subdue him from long range.

Yes i agree, i was thinking along the similar line that Haki is being used as per the will of the person. It does what the user wants Haki to do.

In Gaban case, he wanted it to harm Imu so it went destructive. In Shanks case, he just wanted to warn/twitch and talk to Greenbull it did that. They could talk from miles away.

When Shanks went to meet WB, he wanted to pose threat and use his haki to destroy parts of the ship. I feel the application of this Haki could be more as per will of the person.

I think it's the most criticized thing about one piece and honestly I can see why. It's a great story with fun characters and cool fights, but at some point it really can feel repetitive and boring. Although One Piece was never intended to be this long, and Oda is getting up there in age, so I understand why it's like this nowadays.

It usually ends with him taking down someone physically powerful in a brawl: Kuroobi, Jabra, Absalom, Wadatsumi, Queen and Omen-buffed Killingham with immortality. Bon Clay was the exception and it was mostly a gag fight. Rest of the time, Sanji always used his strength to overcome his opponent’s strength/durability. Which makes sense because he’s a martial artist, after all.

If Sanji vs Lafitte is really on the cards, Lafitte is gonna need some kind of demonic form making him physically powerful imo.
