Tbh a big part of the problem is that Oda goes way over the top with making gag characters like Sommers look much weaker than they should be, just for the sake of some (not very funny) comedy. I mean how tf does Sommers go from casually blocking a KoH Dragon Damnation to getting casually treated like a training dummy by Zoro? Why does he no longer have the reaction speed to block and parry Zoro’s attacks? Was Zoro just randomly moving at only like 10% of his normal speed when he was using his strongest known attack, which costs a lot of Haki for him to use?

It's actually insane that Oda low-key flanderized Sommers. He was always a coward who who over reacted obviously, but all the crying and stuff is pretty overdone. I think it all started with the chapter where he was going to make the kids fall off the cliff with their mothers. Oda really wanted to double down on the torture.

When you have Franky saying they’re bums, and that the strawhats are too strong for them ON panel; then obviously their whole deal is being frauds canonically.

It’s pretty much in line with what being a celestial dragon entails. Shamrock might be the exception tho.

I wonder how powercreep deniers like @ConquistadoR and @Veku rationalize Hajrudin’s performance? Are the SHs, the main characters of the story, the only ones not allowed to experience powercreep?

This is the same manga where just two arcs after Lucci lost to Luffy extreme diff, a single Pacifista pushed THE ENTIRE CREW to extreme diff, and two arcs after that we saw random fodder Whitebeard Pirate allies (not even dudes who are members of the actual crew, just allies) fucking up Pacifistas en masse.
The only reason they deny this is because it makes the Warlords look bad. That's it. There's a reason why only Warlord wankers do this, it's because the second they admit powercreep is real is the second they have to admit that Oda clearly put emphasis on characters like Jack and Katakuri having a bounty equal to or above 1B after giving Luffy and Law 1B for defeating Doflamingo, because he wanted the readers to come to the conclusion that Jack, Katakuri, King, Queen, Marco, Jinbe and others are above Doflamingo.

Thing is, Sommers was a fun antagonist.
Having him be simply aura farming material for Zoro is just lame. Same thing could have been accomplished with Killingham.
Would much rather have Sommers vs Sanji still.

Because the thing is, the HKs legit fell flat. The fact that they are mere training tools when Imu himself is in the island facing off Luffy feels even more lame.
HKs flexed on random island giants, some giant teachers, and then Gunko rekt the non-M3 SHs. that's it. Everywhere else they fell flat.
Even GunkImu fell flat.
Wings get scraps. Non-M3 SHs dont even get that.
It's kinda annoying. Why bother having a giant protagonist cast if only the MC matters?
