You have it the other way around. The exoskeleton made the barrier effect of Emission redundant.
Sanji's Haki alone isn't enough to protect this body from the flames, that's why he combined it with the exoskeleton.
The exoskeleton is still necessary to handle the heat of Ifrit.
With (or without) CoC, the exoskeleton is sturdy enough to make Emission redundant.

Basic CoA = Armour and Hardening
aCoA = Emission and Internal Destruction
basic CoC = domination
aCoC = Infusion (and a bunch of other stuff like Knots, Observation Killing)
aCoC Infusion is like Armament but supped up.
The difference is a lack of physical barrier.
Only aCoA Emission creates the barrier effect.
