Doffy was arguably planning to become the ruler of the world and needed immortality coz Imu and the Gorosei possess something similar and he likely knew, though perhaps they haven’t obtained it via the Ope Ope, but rather Imu's own power coz Imu can grant and revoke a form of immortality.
