Gyukimaru didn't wait to cheapshot Zoro, he waited for an opening. He didn't get his opening until after a while had passed. That's what the manga shows.

@nik87: Oda showed us tne passage of time, so we can tell that at least several minutes passed. Zoro is a highly proficient fighter and doesn't often leave openings.

If he has it lol, its very possible Zoro ditched Ashura and fully focused on his base stats. Which is more impressive if you ask me because while Luffy is a true threat only for a few minutes, Zoro is true threat at all times
