I started looking at Hawkins character more deeply and in detail and I'm finding a lot of similarities/parallels with Christopher Marlowe and the Faust.
I'm starting to see what's his real role in Onigashima (especially with Killer), the circumstances in which he ate his DF and the reason he did it, if I'm correctly connecting the points, but before doing a thread about it I'll wait...
