Well yeah but I under impression he still took some damage from explosion. You dont need direct hit to take damage from explosion . Dont know just my opinion , could be wrong.

If it works like explosion then he still felt the blast to some extent but blocked main energy source . If not then yes he blocked it completely.

Vista has equal or better sword skill as per canon.
