Right from the start in Jaya it was emphasized that his crew relies on “fate.” Blackbeard makes plans (some of them plain dumb) and relies on fate to take him through. I’ve never considered him the Aizen, Lelouch etc type. He’s just a careless dumbass waiting to see if the winds blow his way.
