    Back during the Fullbringer arc they go into detail about how damage to soul bodies is different to damage to physical bodies, with Ichigo being suddenly much more at risk from any source of damage. They simply do not work the same. Kyoraku is just "that powerful" a soul.

    VP is slowly replicating technology from the ancient kingdom. The gorosei might have actual technology salvaged from the ancient kingdom secretly in use for 800 years, like an ancient weapon. I don't think it's the case, but it wouldn't be crazy.
