I wouldnt say the portrayal has ever changed.........I think When Sanji left a Major Arc like Dressrosa, and Zoro clashed with Fuji, showed Haki, and defeated Pica it made it seem as if Zoro was portrayed way stronger Sanji cause Sanji left the Arc and didnt get a chance to show his abilities...
