I totally agree that sneak attacks aren't a problem in a pirate fight.
And that Kata and Kaido didn't use hostage or Flampe themselves to land a hit but it did help them. Without Flampe Kata couldn't land any Mogura hit on Luffy and without the fake Momo as an hostage Kaido wouldn't have hit Oden from behind.

That's true. But as romantically shonen as this series is, it's pretty honest on that front. If you want a fair fight you can get boned.

Like even if Kaido was alone up there, it's not like Luffy was telling Zoro not to go. He specifically asked for Lucci man to man but that was an exception
