The most surprising thing was how good his acting was. He entered Kid's base by taking out his snipers, a reasonable concern for anyone but Apoo who should have been trying to set up an alliance. He also kept the bad blood between from Sabaody. Kid is on a short fuse, that could have easily ruined Apoo's plans to keep everyone together until Kaido arrives. Yet he played it naturally like he was Kanjuro's understudy.
Apoo was the most scared of the three when Kaido dropped down, but he wasn't overreacting at all. The real Apoo might not even have been scared, definetely not of his own boss. Remember that Sabaody Apoo stuck around to what see Admiral Kizaru could do while everyone else was bailing out. After he bodies all the rookies, Apoo has the nerve to attack this man and reveal his hidden location. NO FEAR.
For that reason, I also think Apoo in Kaido's crew is just another kabuki act. He's a Paramecia in a crew of Zoans. The vibe of Kaido's crew doesn't match Apoo's style and a few instruments at the Fire Festival won't change that. With how much Big Mom was singing in her arc, he honestly belonged over in Tottoland if he planned to be a servant boy. Hawkins gave us a look at where being loyal to Kaido gets you, even got defeated by another Worst Gen. Capone had his master plan so take down his boss. Drake's ambitions might be more realistic in that he only plans to spy on Kaido for the good of the marines. It'll be interesting to see what fresh spin Oda decides to put on Apoo's story.
