General & Others Arc rewind : East Blue saga

#1
I realized today that there were many many threads and discussions on the most recents and arcs in the story but that there weren't enough about the previous arcs.

So I decided to create arc rewind threads so we may discuss about them.

And so my first thread of this kind should be about the first arcs, the beggining of One Piece : the East Blue saga composed of Romance Dawn, Captain Morgan, Orange Town, Syrup Village, Baratie, Arlong Park and Loguetown arcs.

What are your thoughts and opinions of the first arcs of One Piece ? What is your favorite arc of this saga ? Favorite moments ? Favorite characters introduced here ?

the Arlong Park Arc was the best of EB.
my favorite scene in the entire Saga was also in there.
its the moment where Nami breaks and begs Luffy for help. the only thing he cared for was that Arlong made her sad. he did not even care why. and without knowing anything else about the ordeal he goes in an ends Arlongs career.
not to mention that Nami just got done fucking them over. Luffy does not care.

I miss this Luffy.

Great moments and great arcs, the best moments for me :

- Beginning of the core crew
- Buggy existance and the fact that he came back in Loguetown
- Nami/Arlong moments and Nami and Luffy
- Mihawk big entrance : his moments whites Zoro was awesome. He made the world so much bigger by his existence. Mihawk clearly showed that they were only at the beginning of the trip. And Zoro dream too.
- Gin was a great villain, not totally bad but definitely not good, his relationship with sanji was great and with his captain too.
- Sanji and Zeff flashback was really intense and raw.
- Smoker in Loguetown was badass (and Dragon too)
- Captain Kuro : his madness when he slashed own crew.
- Ussop vs Chew was quite the fun too.

It was a solid introductory saga. One which cements the core cast moving forward, and eases you into the zany world. It’s even seen with the crewmembers. Pretty normal looking bunch of teens, Luffy being the strangest just for his devil fruit, which were rare back then.

Most Strawhats get a powerful, emotionally charged moment that helps empathize and connect with them right away.

Villains are a bit more one note, since arcs were shorter and less complex. But they served their purpose by endearing us to our heroes, while selling them as more capable than any of these EB villain crews. That’s real good, as it will only make future antagonists more threatening when they prove more challenging.

All of the east blue captains were just there for me but cool in a way.
I like the fact that they had different skills without devil fruits like Kuro speed, Arlong teeth and nose and Krieg weapons
