Questions & Mysteries Are BB and Akainu suitable opponents for Luffy?

Sure, the guy who caused Luffy his biggest scar - which ached when hearing Akainu's name - gets bodied by a healthy Luffy. Because that's what Oda sure plans to do.

The difference is that

Akainu and Luffy didn't really interact (in fact did they even talk to each other?)
Akainu scarred unconscious Luffy!

Akainu and Luffy don't really have any rivalry
Luffy can be possed but he never actually witnessed the events on how he got scarred. He was only told so later on.

Compare it with Oden and Kaido or Shanks and Teach where both were conscious and interacted many times...one got scarred in battle! Nobody was unconscious when scarred.

We usually say Akainu vs Luffy is fated yet their matchup isn't really built up like Teach vs Luffy or Oden vs Kaido, Teach vs Shanks

In fact, Akainu didn't meant to even scar Luffy.
It was an attack to hurt Jinbei which then yhe leftover magma ended up hurting Luffy too.
Akainu was trying to stop Jinbei then kill Luffy.

So basically Akainu accidently scarred unconscious Luffy

Like why would Luffy fight someone whom he doesn't remember scarring him and wasn't even an attack meant for him first.

Luffy also doesn't wanna avenge Ace...
There isn't any panel of Luffy wanting revenge of that against Akainu!
He accepted the fate that Ace sacrificed himself.
Sabo is the one who wants to avenge Akainu

If by "suitable opponents" you mean a full 1on1 fight, then Blackbeard will be the only one out of the two. If you mean just a confrontation between them, then both. Luffy won't be an underdog vs current top tiers by the time of the Final War, which is the only chance of Akainu fight happening. And Oda's never gonna do a fight with Luffy where he's superior to the opponent, which he will be to Akainu once he beats Teach. But they will have a clash regardless, and then somebody else will interfere and take over the fight.

Akainu's full 1on1 final fight will be related to Fujitora, Sabo or Dragon (who will also fight Imu). Chances of it being Fuji or Sabo. Justice factor for Fuji, underdog factor for Sabo.
