Are you required?

Be kind and polite and express the required amount of concern and contact as in socialisation

Anywork environment requires just that.. You can be reserved all you want until that starts intervening with the flow of work and the atmosphere required for the team to function.

Obligated? No.

But it is important to build yourself through networking and meeting people, you ever wonder why there’s an idiot in a high position? Networking.

There are some people who work hard and get to a high position, but there are also a select few who get high positions i.e. svp, directors, who’re idiots and only have those titles caused their friends with x person.

if you wanna work at most places
you will need some level of communication such as with customer service where you might need to speak with other staff to know the availability of certain items

Yeah, you're obligated to. It sucks shit honestly; I've been corporate for a few years and it's the one aspect that really gets to me. All this forced social interaction, going for after-work drinks, in-office events, Christmas parties, they all suck. Been wearing me down. IDK where other people are located, but my country's starting to have a pushback against the work-from-home revolution that Covid forced open. Middle management need to watch over us so they can micromanage to hell and back. I have a great social life outside of work, I just don't want to be forced to be buddy buddy with the lame-asses I work with.

Yes, if your co-worker is skilled & hardworking. There will be mutual benefits.

No, if your co-worker is lazy ass stupid. He will depend on you for every little things. And every little thing you did for him will become pointless once you stop helping. These are lice in corporate sector. Beware of them.

To get ahead you need to identify the right people and become invaluable to them.

Occasionally this involves being everyone's friend, but more often than not it involves being reliable and respected.

The latter probably applies most to you because if they find out you're a one piece fan, you'll lose all respect.
