General & Others Artur's international Poll

#22
Easy.

Brook. A perv skeleton, what's not to like?!

Jaya - the second breaking point of One Piece where we start to see the real scope of the world (the first if of course after Arlong Park) and we got the insane Bellamy vs Luffy "fight". Best arc ever.

And Doflamingo's quote during Marineford is probably the most true, and at the same time horrible, things spoken in the entire series. F*cking love it.

Shanks, MF, and "The freest is the PK"

Oda kinda mentioned the whole paradox between Luffy becoming this really strong/powerful pirate carrying the will of his predecessors for centuries and at the same time wanting to be the freest man.

The resolution of the paradox is that you need power to be free. Your freedom does not only depend on your own actions, but if others thwart your freedom as well. Being able to prevent others from inhibiting your freedom can only come through power.

Why was Wano considered as one of the options, even in the official Japanese popularity poll?

I mean, yes.. to me, it's shaping up to be one of the best arcs in OP for me, going by what's been transpiring so far, but it's not even finished... not even halfway even.. It really shouldn't have been part of this poll.

I am happy to see Skypiea arc gets the recognition it deserves. Almost everyone I know either hates the arc and consider it one of the worst or doesn't consider it one of the good ones. RogersBase was basically the only one that give Skypiea great reviews and I remember one time in his favorite arcs list he gave it the top spot. Jaya + Skypiea both makes an epic Saga and one of the best stories told in one piece.

I voted Katakuri as my favorite character, Water Seven as my favorite arc with the great plot, tensions between the Straw Hats, the CP9, the suspence here, the Straw Hats being blamed for a crime and searched by the local population, etc...

Dr Hililuk's quote about a man dying when he's forgotten is the best OP quote of all time.

Interesting that the ratio between male and female readers is overwhelmingly in favor of the former until you hit 40+ where it becomes much more even...wonder what entices middle aged women into reading a series largely aimed at young boys :choppawhat:

Nearly everyone agrees that Wano is already a top 3 arc, despite all the bitching from a vocal minority on this site about Oden’s flashback...

Something tells me grown up people love action less and more about plots

We were here all along. We were "enticed" the same way you were, lol. We are here both for the romantic adventure and the poop jokes.

Many of us are/were Sailor Moon fans, Inuyasha fans, Naruto, DB, Princess Knight, Bleach, Ranma 1/2, etc., but there is also a large contingent of women, including western women, who have been following SJ in general for years. I still get my 2 YuGiOh cards a year or whatever....

We have been here since the 90s. Middle aged men could be dropping out of self-reported readership demographics. IME, women are not as heavily criticized for having "childish" interests as we age as much as men are. (This is why they don't make fun socks for men, but that's another topic)

Don't forget that Oda is of our age as well. He references the manga that we love, you know?

Also, Artur's 40+ gender percentage is based on 29 votes, so take what you, I, and Artur say with a grain of salt.

Wordy, I apologize for offending you. Really didn’t mean to be condescending, but I see how I came off that way. I saw the small sample size and just found it interesting that the ratio between male and female respondents went from heavily skewed in one direction to being way more balanced, and I was mostly curious why that wasn’t the case in the lower age brackets. The perception of childishness makes sense, but I’m nearing my 30s and still posting on this website, so it’s not like I can throw a stone in this glass house. I’m glad we have people like you in the fandom, gives us a wider swath of diversity that seems to be lacking in the younger groups.

Come in for a big hug from mama Dadan.

That jump in % does look significant, but "40+" is a pretty big category. I think the SJ poll also had a separate 50+ category.

Some of my best OP friends are women in their 30s, 40s, and even 50s. One of them has a neighbor who still follows the anime at age 90! We didn't all pick up OP all of a sudden xD
