Deuteragonists can be wildcards. They don't need to be goodish.

Yeah I agree. MCs usually fall in the same archetype and model, whilst the other characters typically have more 'freedom' so to say.

Oh yeah Seras was a nice pick. I like her too, unfortunately she got matched up against L, who is just on a different level.
