Well strictly speaking about sales they were highest for arrancar arc. I think for lot Japanese fans the story ended right there so lot of them stopped reading bleach.

It's a two sided knife, If the story ended with Ichigo losing his powers, everybody would hate kubo for not showing bankais of unohana, hirako, yamamoto, Rukia and a lot of others. Kubo was a victim of his own success.
