Idk actually, that’s probably the case tbh
I used to read some shojos when I was younger and bought the actual volumes.
In the author comments the artist wrote that it's commonplace to use actual photographs as backgrounds

As @solis said, it feels like LARPing at maturity/being an adult tbh. Although I know some fans of it including some of the people i mentioned are mature people too ofc.
There's those people who go "oh, look at me while i'm reading / watching very dark fiction, wow i can handle so much, i'm so mature you can't hold a candle to me you weaklings"

Yeah absolutely lmao. Maturity is so much more complex and difficult than that. I struggle with maturity myself after all.

I think being able to handle dark stuff is only the first step towards maturity right after you step out of childhood.
A 30/40 y/o who still thinks edgy stuff is 'mature' is more of a manchild than anything.
After the edge and darkness phase one should enter a more peaceful phase instead.
And this is what I love about Vagabond. Musashi is going through this development and advances as a human being rather than becoming the biggest edgelord in history. You should really check it out.

Exactly I completely agree. Its important to be aware of the fucked up shit in reality but it shouldnt be a crutch to claim maturity, especially when you're a fully grown adult/middle aged as you said.

Ah that does sound pretty nice, I did hear similar stuff like that about Vagabond, I might check it out then.

This comes to mind tbh, I've seen some men go through this as they get a lot older too:

I mean, when I was 13 I liked Apocalypto:kailaugh: I thought it's cool and mature because it has excessive violence. Today this movie isn't more than a cringefest to me.

Wait until you come to the farming arc. Best arc in the series:smoothy:

Hahaha
Reverse the second one with the first one and that's me.
Not sure I'll ever enter that surreal phase tho
