hard to say ... it need a mastery over both sword and CoA ...

I can't be sure if Oda ever tell us a real magic system for it ...

I think it's one of those things Oda added to the story randomly and expended as times goes on ...

in my opinion : having black blade = getting the title of WSS (if no one alive had it already)

I would hope the Wado turns into a blackblade at the end of wano, but i believe it will be enma that turns into a black blade. Zoro does seem to have immense control of CoA when he put it his haki back into his arm hence why Hitetsu expressed some level of confidence in him to turn the blade (enma) balck

Black paint, probably.

I imagine it largely has to do with the connection forged between the user and the weapon...it’s likely more than just fighting tough opponents, it’s about caring for the blade, maintaining/repairing it as necessary, and becoming one with its spirit (maybe the usage of VOAT/BOAT is somehow involved). I don’t purport to understand a lot of the mechanics behind it, but clearly, just taking out stronger swordsmen doesn’t do the trick. If it did, every blade Zoro’s had would have become black.

Just want to have your thoughts about it. I've seen CoA mentioned so many times but I don't think that's the only requirement, it would be too lame. And I think there would be more of them if that was the case.
So what are your thoughts about it?

@Finalbeta , @nik87 , @Cinera , @HA001 , @Jo_Ndule , @Red Admiral , @Jackteo , @pedxi , @Topi Jerami , @Buusatan94 , @TheAncientCenturion , @Chrono , @ShishioIsBack , @gojo , @critical mindset , @januarysdaughter , @Fiji
The only way is through haki-imbuing and all suggests this is a CoA feature.

However nothing excludes the possibility of CoC being involved instead.

Problem is Roger apparently failed and I fail to believe someone else possessed a stronger CoC.

Also Oden as well. I thought Oden im surprised Oden wasnt able to achieve this feat

But we don't know if roger or shanks, or rayleigh really failed. Maybe they never tried or maybe they didn't have what it took to turn it black.

I think I'll agree with @nik87 on this one. It is the control of CoA you use with the sword coupled with the extreme battle you have.

Which doesn't mean you have the strongest haki in the verse , roger and whitey chan were overflowing haki, they just didn't care about the control and their weapons.
They would just go for destructive power.
