Akainu scarred Luffy mentally and physically. He took his brother's life right before Luffy's eyes and he's the leader of the Marines.

Luffy vs Akainu seems incredibly likely to me. I can understand the sentiments regarding Sabo vs Luffy with the inheritance of Ace's fruit and feelings of regret regarding not being around at the time but I don't think they outweighs Luffy's. I don't really care about where Akainu stands compared to other strong characters but Luffy vs Akainu not happening would be a huge let-down in my opinion. Plus, I'd love to see Luffy dealing with his fruit and attacks.

Overall, Akainu needs to get repaid for what he did to Ace and I think Luffy's the one who'll do it.

That's not luffy

Luffy isn't going to avenge Ace when Sabo is there for that
Plus luffy got over it, he doesn't think everyday to pay akainu back

Are you kidding me? When he only heard Akainus name he got anxiety and touched his big ass scar.
I cant believe you guys dont understand how japanese people think.
Having such a big ass scar is a huge traumatic thing for japanese. Its personal and has to be resolved.
See Kaidos scar, Shanks scar, Luffys scar etc.

I feel like the Final War will mainly constitute the battle against the Marine and part of the Government. Channelling too many iper powerful opponents in one basket could prove too much differently.

So recently a friend of mine told me that if we look at SBS 59 in JAPANESE, there was an element that was left out in the English translation


Indeed in this SBS, Oda answers someone who asked him about how he had forgot to draw Garp's scar in previous occurences and Oda's answer is quite interesting, he jokes that it is a special scar which "aches" or "tingles" when "因縁の敵" is nearby


The VIZ translation translates 因縁の敵 by "an enemy he hates"

HOWOEVER looking at the raw text and possible translations online we got something very different here :cheers:


Interestingly enough this same term is also used to refer to Shanks' relationship to Blackbeard in a databook where his scar is also mentioned :cheers:

Now of course you're going to ask "B-but how does that relate to Luffy and Akainu being guaranteed to fight" ?

Welp It's pretty easy, Luffy's scar aches the same way that Shanks' does when he sees/mentions BB or when Kaido remembers Oden :cheers:


TL:DR : According to ODA, Luffy and Akainu are FATEFUL RIVALS/ENEMIES AND ARE DESTINED TO FIGHT :cheers:
