Block it for an INSTANT and get trememndously wrecked and need to be teleported? He can do that without haki, using physical strength and hardness of G3 alone.
Using barrier haki he can block it for much longer, and with far less damage than Zoro sustained.
Using G4 tankman harmonized with his barrier haki, he can potentially absorb and repel the energy.
Using Adv CoC he can clash with it, no tricks. He'll lose the clash eventually but not be injured from one non adv CoC hit.

It's funny reading all the post where fans claim Luffy and the other SN could have done the same yet they didn't. Even Kid thank Zoro, which is a little out of his character. But I'm not surprised because it's coming from the same people who constantly hate on Zoro. That's just another way for them to try to downplay Zoro's feat.
Because Luffys job is to beat Kaido, not drain his haki down and risk his combat performance.
And he didn't have adv CoC to do it in the more efficient method.
More physical strength compared to someone matching Kaido's hybrid physical strength for 30 minutes in base?

Still require strength to match the clash, unless you are saying Luffys adv CoC vastly outstrips Kaido's by a large degree to counteract Kaido's strength + his adv CoC if he was suffering from a raw physical strength disadvantage.
Luffy played around and ran with a giant ball of gold in skypeia, Zoro's lifting feat in the arc immediately prior was to slowly handle a much lighter hollow building.
Luffy split W7 with a show of brute force, while Oda gave Zoro the feat of cutting a chimney, far less impressive strength wise.
