Ahahaha, exactly. Big fick you to Denji and us readers.
Made me re-read first few chapters though, and it indeed kinda works as a callback - Denji was a bit disappointed after squeezing Power's boobs and did ponder if he was happier chasing for his dreams rather than living them.
This is a thing that's been foreshadowed since Part 1, even besides the Power boob squeeze thing:
Denji would have never been able to stop if not for Pochita's sacrifice. He wouldn't know how to.
And I don't exactly blame him for it, I may not personally relate to it but anyone should be able to see why he's like this. He's a very broken man, and some people just can't be satisfied even after getting something that is objectively good.
Reminds me of a song called "
After You Get What You Want, You Don't Want It". He'll have this image in his head of how amazing it'll be to experience certain things, and those things could definitely feel great when he does get them, but they'll still end eventually. He can never have sex 24/7 with a woman he's into, and he can never eat good food 24/7, and he hates that. He'll keep trying to get the most of these things as humanly possible, and that's exactly what leads to his downfall. Even with Reze, he could've tried to date her and run away with her, but he held himself back from that because he had unreciprocated feelings for Makima. Although he obviously couldn't escape Makima's hold on him, he didn't even try to.
And him trying to have sex with Yoru+Asa, despite Yoru being a genocidal maniac, only proves my point here. That is way too similar to him still being in love with Makima at the end of Part 1 despite her being an objectively terrible person. He still never learned to stop thinking solely with his dick.
Pochita did what he did to save Denji in multiple ways. With Pochita gone, Denji will have a far better chance at living a normal life for once. You can say this would be a good ending, and that Fujimoto doesn't typically do that, but I think Denji living a normal life with Asa or Reze or whoever might come to his aid at the expense of Pochita being dead/erased is already a pretty bittersweet ending to the manga.
