Everybody respects Xebec’s power. Kaido’s line about betrayal is bound to come into play though. They’ll see Xebec on the brink of defeat and abandon him, a tragic downfall for someone of his stature. If his top five had stayed loyal, I don’t think he’d lose.

Whitebeard should be the most loyal. Their bond feels real; he’s sailed with Xebec for over a decade, and Xebec is an honorable man. Maybe the moment that a Domi Reversified Xebec kills innocents is what drives Whitebeard away. Still, I think Whitebeard should sense that something was amiss.

Either Whitebeard or Shiki imo, but Shiki may not be that scummy.

Oh my, I just realized...

With Baby Shanks and Baby Blackbeard on the same island, you know what that means?

Baby Blackbeard and Baby Shanks are basically the same as Baby Broly and Baby Goku from Dragon Ball Z.

It's entirely possible that their entire rivalry started because of something dumb that they did to each other as babies.

Blackbeard hates Shanks because he laughed too much as a baby, or something.

I think people are getting carried away with Xebec being charismatic, awesome and caring for at least his family and seem to have forgotten that he’s a violent, greedy lunatic as well.

The handwaving of his brutal treatment of Loki, who is a child and the son of his “best friend” is weird to watch. The only reason Harald even treats with Xebec is because he doesn’t know what happened there. The idea that because Loki doesn’t care it’s fine is insane, because Loki is an emotionally distraught child who feels everyone in the world despises him. He’s not exaclty the best judge of character. Ida knows a bit more anout the world and is adjusted, she hates Rocks, and I think that’s likely because she does know, or suspect, how he treats Loki.

Xebec’s very like his son. If you back and reread Jaya, Blackbeard comes across as a real charismatic guy as well. Best scene in the series, his speech about dreams. A cool, strong, villainous crew, but we can move past that if the main man is cool.

But Teach was still someone who murdered his own crewmate for a DF. Xebec’s got his own nasty backstory, with the death of the Admiral and the treatment of Loki. I still think that when we find out exactly how that came about, Xebec will not come across as honourable at all.

Arlong, for example, also had people he loved and cared about. He genuinely did love his crew and the Sun Pirates. He was still evil.

Xebec not being able to bind his crew to him with genuine loyalty is not Whitebeard’s fault, or any of the others. It’s Xebec’s. He couldn’t gather these people to him without the use of Davy Back fights, it’s not like they wanted- outside Silver Axe- to join him.

Great post, and I think people are really missing the mark if they think Loki looking up to Xebec means at some point he will want to ally with Teach. He doesn't really agree with/understand Xebecs will, and he didn't really inherit it either. Loki's admiration for Xebec is all about the fact that he saw him being confident, assertive and "grabbing life by the balls" at a time when Loki felt like there was no place for him in the world, but ironically, Loki following Rocks lead to him lashing out at people who did actually care for him, insulting Hajrudin for being mixed race, calling Ida who cared about him a gold digger etc. Funny enough, the irony is that Loki really knows nothing about the giants of old when he's adopting these ideas about how Harald made Elbaf soft, talking about Ragnarok, disliking Hajrudin for having foreign blood. He is the equivalent of an online edgelord, he doesn't really know about the old ways of giants, like Harald who actually terrorized the world, or Dorry and Broggy who had a infamous century long duel for their giant honor. While Loki seethes about his loss to Shanks, to this day, instead of accepting an honor in his loss(I remember Kaido had a line in Wano about how the samurai should accept their defeats as honorable samurai, and it could probably apply to Loki), and still pretending he could destroy Elbaf after being in a bad shape from Gunko. At the end of the day, he doesn't really understand Rocks or Harald.

I hope Oda didn't forget that he introduced the giant elders as characters. Would be super cool to see them interact with Loki, as giants who really were around back then, who might see him as nothing more then a troublemaker/failed prince.

Btw, just curious, when was it shown Ida disliked Rocks? I don't remember that.
