You people do realize Oda is the author, right? If Oden is highly regarded in the manga for his strength, it's because the author wants you to know that he is strong. Not that the author is a fanboy for a character who is much weaker than they are portrayed to be.

There's times where you can tell the author is going the extra mile to make sure you understand a character is good and strong

Oda has done that with Shanks and Oden. Kishi did it with Itachi "5 year old but wise as a hokage" Uchiha for example

As far as One Piece goes, the answer to this question begins and ends with Lolden.

Lolda sacrificed Kaido and his crew for that nonsense smh.

But we were never shown him fighting against Kaido’s strongest form (hybrid). So even if that was Oda’s intention there’s not enough evidence to make that assertion without speculation.

Kobyhamaru is still the best answer here, even Oden earned his stripes getting boiled alive while holding up his gang. If he wants a power up he can have it. Kobyhamaru met the main character in the first episode so he punches through mountains.
