No, it isn't weird that Chadbeard wants his crew mates to call him pops because he wants to create a very familiar environment within his crew and once again, giving some folks the opportunity to feel parental love.
WB always longed for a family but I can understand why he didn't create a family with a woman because it'd mean he'd abandon them eventually since he is a pirate. We have far more than enough DEADBEAT PARENTS in One Piece: Shanks, Roger, Yasopp, Dragon, Judge, etc. They finished inside and dipped. Would you like to see WB doing the same shit?
