Wolf in sheep clothing plot has been repeated several times that it's not unique anymore. We already had Captain Kuro playing the nice guy to Kaya, Lucci/Kalifa/Kaku/Blueno playing the nice guy to Water 7 community, Kanjuro playing the nice guy to Oden and 9 Scabbards, etc.

Shanks is nothing different than him, just the victim this time is Luffy himself.
